Realising your full potential at university
There is more to preparing for your future than just learning skills for a career. University is a time to grow as an individual. For many students, it might be the first living away from family and friends. This can be a challenge when it also includes moving to a new country. But it is also an opportunity!
Coming to Australia from Kenya to study at Deakin University, Tilak experienced culture shock. His parents even wanted him to return home to study there.
‘I felt like I was in the right place.’ – Tilak
But, he says, ‘Being in Australia wasn’t just about the study experience.’ He has now graduated from Deakin and is working in financial planning.
And he is proud of the person he has become. ‘If I look at myself a few years ago, I wouldn’t recognise myself’ he tells us. ‘The confidence that I’ve gained. I’ve realised that my potential is more than what I thought it was.’
Watch Tilak’s story of growth and how Deakin supported him on the journey.
Deakin is the #1 university in the state of Victoria for both student support and overall educational experience for the past 13 years! (2021 Student Experience Survey, Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT)).
