For Moulishree Shukla, a Vice-Chancellor’s Meritorious 100% Scholar pursuing Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Law contributing to society and empowering others has shaped her goal of building a career in law and politics.

It was when she discovered that Deakin offered a unique double degree in Arts and Law, complete with hands-on experience at the Deakin Law Clinic, it felt like the perfect opportunity. The combination of rigorous academics, practical exposure, and Deakin’s support for international students led her venture from Jalandhar in India to Australia with confidence to pursue her dream.

‘Deakin’s impact on my life has been profound in so many ways.’

A pivotal moment in Moulishree’s journey was receiving the Vice-Chancellor’s Meritorious 100% Scholarship. It not only provided financial support but also opened doors to the Vice-Chancellor’s Professional Excellence Program, offering mentorship and resources that accelerated her personal and professional development. For bright and ambitious Moulishree this was just the beginning.

An aspiring lawyer with humanitarian values at heart, she is grateful for the holistic learning and resources that Deakin provides. The university’s commitment to ethics and hands-on learning aligned perfectly with her personal values, especially in the field of law, where Deakin’s Bachelor of Laws program not only meets the Victorian Legal Admissions Board requirements but also emphasizes professional integrity and humanity.

‘My mission in life is to empower each and every person to find their inner voice and potential and by learning the fundamentals of law and arts I hope to do that one day.’

A natural born leader and enthusiastic team worker, Moulishree combines her academic pursuits with the plethora of opportunities for excellence and leadership that are available for students at the university.

Moulishree is proud of wearing many hats as a university graduate. She is a Study Melbourne Ambassador, a peer mentor for the Business and Law faculty, and a senior writing mentor in her time so far at Deakin. She has served as President of the Deakin Women’s Collective (Burwood) which was particularly transformative in her words, teaching her the importance of decision-making, collaboration, and empathetic leadership.

For her, Deakin’s consistent encouragement for students to grow as leaders made all the difference, empowering her to take on other impactful roles such as Deakin Residence Social Media Influencer, International Representative on the University Council and Events Manager for DUIC Burwood.

She is proud to have hosted the inaugural International Student Support Group Event, during her tenure as the International Representative at Deakin University Student Association (DUSA). This remarkable event brought together 200 students from across the globe, fostering a spirit of unity and camaraderie.

‘My journey with the Indian Club at Deakin has been nothing short of a beautiful kaleidoscope of heartwarming events, with laughter, dances, and unforgettable memories.’

For an international student life can be exciting and Moulishree’s experience proves it. Deakin offers a balance between academics and social life providing the skills and experiences needed to evolve as a leader and a global citizen.

Beyond academics, Deakin excels in career support through services like DeakinTALENT. Moulishree has benefited from personalised career coaching, networking events, and industry connections that have paved her path towards professional success.

Through all these experiences, Moulishree feels a deep connection to the Deakin community, every role, event, and initiative has been a building block in her journey of self-discovery and personal growth. Deakin’s values have not only shaped her university experience but have also set a foundation for a lifelong commitment to making a positive impact in the world.
