Financial support for your goals

April 30, 2024 - 4 min read

For many students wanting an international education, tuition and living costs can be a barrier to getting a start on a great future. Deakin wants to help you make your dreams come true. That’s why we offer scholarships to make it easier for you.

Scholarships reward your previous academic achievements. You earned good grades in high school, we want to help you continue to thrive through university and beyond.

‘Deakin has supported me by making my dream come true,’ says Supraja. ‘Deakin recognised my past academic and leadership skills and presented me with the honour of being a Vice-Chancellor’s Scholar.’

A Deakin Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship like Supraja received covers either 50 or 100% of the recipient’s tuition fees. Students on this scholarship are also enrolled in the Vice-Chancellor’s Professional Excellence Program (VCPEP). This exclusive personal and professional development program empowers students to be ready for the careers of the future and to contribute to their community.

Emma came to Deakin from Mauritius to study communications. ‘The VCPEP is an outstanding leadership program,’ she says. ‘It gave me access to the services of a career coach and an academic mentor throughout my studies.’

While the number of Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships is extremely limited, there are many other scholarships that provide support. Eligibility criteria include what you study, where you are from or even where you study.

Many students in the Faculty of Science and Engineering each year receive the Deakin STEM Scholarship. Hayden, from Sri Lanka, studied construction management. ‘The reason I chose Deakin,’ he says, ‘is because they offered me a STEM scholarship. I would say that the decision to come to Australia has completely transformed my life. It certainly helped me to experience the world in a different way.’

A similar scholarship helps students achieve their dream of acquiring a postgraduate health degree. Liman from Indonesia is one of these students. ‘Exceeding my expectations, I was granted the Deakin Global Health Leaders Scholarship,’ he said. ‘I never thought I would be able to get it. This encouraged me even more.’ Liman’s goals for his future are ‘to help the community live healthier lives, to help prevent diseases, and make meaningful impact on the people.’

Where you are from also opens up scholarship opportunities. ‘Deakin gave me a scholarship, so I could easily conquer my dream of studying abroad,’ Mien, from Ho Chi Minh, tells us. Studying here,’ she says ‘I have become more mature and I met a lot of new friends that made me more confident.’

Similar to the Deakin Vietnam Scholarship, there are scholarships and bursaries specific to South Asia, Latin America and even the USA.

Most Deakin scholarships do not require a separate application. Eligibility is evaluated along with your application. Scholarships are awarded each trimester on a first come, first offered basis. This means it is important to apply early for your studies.

Scholarships that do require an application include the Deakin Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship. Scholarships administered by the Australian Government, such as the Australia Awards, also require an application.
